Musical Preludes

musical preludes class

WHAT IS MUSICAL PRELUDES?

Musical Preludes is a course designed to introduce your young child to the wonderful world of music, where they learn basic musical concepts and explore various instruments such as the violin, cello, clarinet, piano and more!

Musical Preludes classes are drop-off classes, with the teacher and students only. The course has a parent observation day where parents or caregivers come to class to observe what the children have been learning. We limit the number of students to a max of 8 children per class.

The ultimate goal is for our students to experience the joy of music.

CLASS SCHEDULE FOR 2025-2026:

All Musical Preludes classes (1 Intro class & 2 Junior classes) have 2 terms with 15 classes each: Sept to Jan, and Feb to June.

MP Intro (3-4 year olds): Saturdays 10:00-10:45am (FULL!)

Suzuki Cello Group Class

We are hoping to offer our year long Suzuki Cello Group Class once again this fall on Tuesdays from 6:15-7:00pm.

We need at least 4 students to run the class, so if you are planning on registering your child but haven’t yet, please do so as soon as possible!

Private Lessons - Info!

What happens if I need to miss a lesson?

If you need to miss a lesson during the school year, simply cancel your lesson online by logging into your account (see below). A minimum of 24 hours notice, regardless of the reason for cancellation, is required for the lesson not to be forfeited.

Lessons cancelled with 24 hours notice are never credited, but can be scheduled as make-up lessons.

We do realize that 24 hours notice is sometimes not possible with illness, however, CMC has this policy in place out of consideration for our teachers. They are scheduled to come and teach at CMC or online, and are unable to make any alternative plans with less than 24 hours notice. This includes any technical or equipment failure for online lessons as well. Out of respect for the livelihood of our teachers, this policy stands. If you / your child can’t make your lesson with less than 24 hours notice, you do however have the option of having another family member take that lesson instead so it’s not forfeited.

How do I cancel my lesson online?

Please log into your WellnessLiving account to self-cancel your lesson – click HERE to view a video on how to do so

NOTE:

  • A minimum of 24 hours notice is required in order to receive a make-up lesson
  • There is a maximum of 4 make-up lessons during the school year (one per 10 lessons for those who register after the first week of September)
  • Make-up lessons are required to be completed prior to the end of the school year (end of June)
  • Any lesson cancellations after the month of May are not guaranteed a make-up lesson
  • Tuition is never prorated for missed lessons

How is a make-up lesson arranged?

You are responsible for scheduling your make-up lessons through the office. Please contact the office at cmc@cmccanada.com and our admin team will then help you arrange and book a make-up lesson.

If a teacher needs to cancel a lesson and a substitute teacher is not available, they will ensure that lesson is made up during the school year; our admin team will reach out to you to schedule it.

What happens if the timing doesn’t work for booking a make-up lesson?

There are many possibilities for make-up lessons, so don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

  • Make-up lessons can happen online instead of in-person
  • Make-up lessons can be booked with another CMC teacher if yours is not available. There are benefits from being taught by a different teacher by experiencing a different approach & style of teaching
  • Make-up lessons can be split – for example, if you take 30 minute lessons and your teacher has time before or after your lesson, you can add 15 minutes onto 2 consecutive lessons, so you’d have 45 minute lessons for 2 weeks to make up the missed 30 minute lesson
  • Make-up lessons can be used for mock exams
  • Make-up lessons can be used for piano accompaniment rehearsals for strings and voice students, in preparation for recitals or RCM exams
  • Make-up lessons can be transferred to another family member or friend
  • Make-up lessons can be used for a different instrument – if you have a couple of make-ups and have always wanted to try voice lessons, for example, you can book a couple of voice lessons with one of our voice teachers

Gmail Calendar Issue - Beware!

Warning:

Gmail has a feature that uses AI to generate automated Google Calendar suggestions based on the contents of your emails – but beware, these suggested calendar events are not always accurate! For example, they may contain the wrong date/time, or may have the time as AM instead of PM.

These suggestions will often appear in our lesson reminder emails and lesson booking confirmation emails – please do not add these suggested events to your calendar unless you are certain that the details are correct.

How to disable the feature on your computer:

-> Go to Gmail in your browser

-> “Settings” (gear icon) button in top right

-> “See all settings” button

-> Scroll down in the “General” page until you see “Smart features” on the left

-> Uncheck the box labeled “Turn on smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet”

Teachers Upcoming Gigs & Releases!

Louise

CMC Teacher Louise has an upcoming event:

North Wind Concerts presents:

Ephemera: Corelli in China features Italian Baroque music that was performed and composed in the 18th-century Chinese Imperial Court of Emperor Kangxi. Enfolding the audience in projected visuals and soundscapes, we explore this period of musical cultural exchange through the accounts of Lazarist missionary Teodorico Pedrini.

Invited to a gathering of the Accademia dell’Arcadia under the auspices of the Cardinal Ottoboni, the audience will hear the Italian chamber music of Corelli, Bononcini, and Pasquini in the lavish gardens of the Palazzo della Cancelleria in Rome. We then follow fellow Accademia dell’Arcadia member, Teoderico Pedrini, to China, as he brings Italian Baroque music into the heart of the Forbidden City through Corelli’s Op. 5 solo violin and Op. 4 trio sonatas, and the composition of his own violin sonatas (Op. 3). The audience is taken to the private sphere of the palace, as we listen in on Pedrini’s musical lessons with the Emperor Kangxi and the third, fifteenth and sixteenth princes.

Enjoy!!!

Kayla Hritzuk (Voice, Guitar, Songwriting)

1. How old were you when you first started music?
8

2. Why did you want to make music your career?
While I have interest in other subject areas, I genuinely feel the most free, happy and excited when I am playing music. I always knew this was something I had to do for myself as it would be the most fulfilling path for me to take in my life.

3. Which groups are you currently playing with, if any?
I am currently working on writing music as a solo artist

4. What do you enjoy most about teaching?
My favourite things about teaching are being able to provide an outlet for my students, watching them gain confidence in themselves and just getting to share the joy of music on a daily basis!

5. Some students have challenges with consistent practicing. What advice would you give them?
What has helped me most with consistency is tackling one thing at a time (for example, mastering one section of a song as opposed to trying to get through the whole thing in one sitting), and setting realistic goals for the duration of my practice sessions. Sometimes just 10 minutes a day, 5-7 times a week, is more beneficial than a 2hr long session once a week. This approach also makes things feel less daunting and overwhelming when you’re sitting down to practice!

6. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Play music with my friends, write songs, watch movies and do crafts!

7. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Shanghai to see my parents 🙂

8. Anything else you want to add?
See you in the fall!
