Musical Preludes for 3-6 year olds

What is Musical Preludes?
Musical Preludes is a course designed to introduce your young child to the wonderful world of music, where they learn basic musical concepts as well as explore various instruments such as the violin, cello, clarinet, piano and more!

Musical Preludes classes are drop-off classes, with the teacher and students only. The course has a parent observation day where parents or caregivers come to class to observe what the children have been learning. We limit the number of students to a max of 8 children per class.

The ultimate goal is for our students to experience the joy of music.

We offer 2 different levels of Musical Preludes:

MUSICAL PRELUDES INTRO for 3-4 year olds:

In our Introduction to Musical Preludes, students are introduced to the basic elements of music, including starting and stopping together, fast and slow, high and low, and rhythm & pitch. These elements are explored in various ways: singing and circle games, movement, the use of simple instruments such as rhythm sticks & bells, as well as live demonstrations of various musical instruments. The focus of this class is a general introduction to music & musical instruments.

MUSICAL PRELUDES JUNIOR for 4-6 year olds:

Our Musical Preludes Junior course builds on the concepts learned in the Musical Preludes Intro class (not a prerequisite) – musical terms are used to describe elements such as soft & loud, short & long, and more advanced elements of music such as crescendos & decrescendos are explored. A new element to the Musical Preludes Junior class is the addition of rhythmic notation: students start to learn how to read & write rhythms using basic musical notation, a fundamental aspect to learning any musical instrument.

While an effort will always be made to see what instrument our students gravitate toward during the instrument demo part of the class, please note that it will not always be obvious at a young age. The ultimate goal of these classes is for the children to experience the joy of music.

Group Class Policies:

1. There are no make-up or substitute times for any missed classes
2. For withdrawals from our group classes, tuition fees will be credited with at least 48 hours notice. This credit can be used for any of our offerings at CMC for any family
member. No refunds are given for students withdrawing from courses, only credit.
3. We do not offer free trial classes for our Musical Preludes program. Our class size is small, capped at 8 students, and as such, this would interfere with the dynamic of the class. Once you register, there are 2 parent/caregiver observation days when parents and caregivers are invited to see what happens in a typical class. You are also welcome to make an appointment to have a tour of our school and see where the classes take place; our administrator can also answer any questions you have at that time. TERM ONE with 15 classes total:
September 20, 2025 – January 24, 2026
MP Intro 3-4 yr olds:
Saturdays 10:00 – 10:45am
MP Junior 4-6 yr olds:
Saturdays 11:00 -11:45am
TERM TWO with 15 classes total:
February 7 – June 13, 2026
COST:
$420 per term
$800 total for 2 terms if you register for both at the same time – a savings of $40!

IMPORTANT:
To register your child online, you’ll need to create a parent/caregiver profile for yourself, and then add your child as a ‘family member’ after that, so they have their own profile. Once you sign up, you’ll be sent an activation email which will prompt you to create your account. Once your account is created, please then create a profile for your child by clicking on ‘My Profile’ and ‘+ Family Member’: WL Adding family member to a newly created account.
