Meet the Executive Founding Director
Lusiana Lukman
As a third generation teacher, Lusiana has been teaching piano in Canada since 1991, and founded the Classical Music Conservatory in Toronto in 1997.
Lusiana Lukman was born in Jakarta, Indonesia. Growing up in a musical family instilled in her a passion for music since her childhood. Her mother, a pianist and teacher herself, began teaching Lusiana at the age of three. Lusiana continued her musical studies at the music school YPM at the age of five, where her mother also taught piano. Lusiana left for Canada at the age of fourteen and has since made Toronto her home. In 1991, she completed both her Piano Performer and Teacher programs at the Royal Conservatory of Music. In the same year, she became a Canadian resident.
As a composer, Lusiana developed her language in both acoustic and electroacoustic music. Lusiana has received numerous awards, commissions and scholarships for her solo, chamber and choral compositions in Canada, Indonesia, China and USA, where her compositions have been performed. Her works have been showcased in the BANFF centre, the Arts and Letters Club, the Music Gallery, the ArtWord Theater, the University of Toronto as well as in other venues across Canada. She has been granted commissions by the Ontario Arts Council to write pieces for renowned artists such as Shauna Rolston and Maria Gacesa.
Lusiana’s mastery and love for both teaching music and business inspired her to start the Classical Music Conservatory (CMC) in Toronto in 1997 while she was pursuing her Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music in Composition at U of T. She runs CMC now, located in Roncesvalles, alongside her partner in business and life, Wanda Bussiere, who joined the business in 2005.
Lusiana has been teaching for over 40 years now, and each year, her passion for musical education grows. She has been invited several times to be part of the “Life in Music” panel at the Faculty of Music as a speaker to share her entrepreneurial journey as a music school founder.
Aside from running the school and teaching, Lusiana is passionate about investing and teaching people about investing. She also loves photography, painting, appreciating food and cooking to express her spirituality, love of God and the little things that make life beautiful and amazing.
