Discovering Piano Through Dalcroze Eurhythmics

What is this course?

This coming fall, CMC is offering this unique course, the first ever in Canada!

This class is designed for children in S.K. and Grade 1.

Taught by renowned Dalcroze Eurhythmics specialist Cheng-Feng Lin, children are invited to explore and learn about musical elements (beat, note values, scales, intervals and more) through whole body movement and on the piano.

Honouring the century-old wisdom and principles of the Swiss music educator, Émile Jaques-Dalcroze (1865-1950), Dalcroze Eurhythmics classes serve as the essential preparation and ongoing support for instrumental studies.

In Dalcroze Eurhythmics we train the body first as the primary expressive musical instrument. There will be games and exercises that aim to develop and wire together the following abilities: refined listening, whole body movement, singing and collaborative skills.

We then transfer this refined global musical sensibility onto the finer motor skills on the piano.

There is a limit of 6 students per class to allow for ample movement space and individual attention.

NOTE: Access to a piano at home is wonderful, but not required for this introductory course.
