Dalcroze Eurhythmics for Adults

Personal wellness through music & movement

Come and join CMC’s Dalcroze Eurhythmics for Adults under the guidance of Mr. Cheng-Feng Lin (one of the top 2 Dalcroze specialists in Canada) and experience the many benefits of this specialized music and movement class, including increased balance, coordination, memory, imagination and musical artistry!

Dalcroze Eurhythmics is a dynamic learning process that involves music and movement based on philosophy and pedagogy principles of Emile Jaques-Dalcroze (1865-1950)  - a Swiss composer/professor at the Geneva Conservatory of Music.

In these classes, our objective is personal wellness through music and movement by engaging the whole body and active listening.

What does a class look like?

  • Our classes are student centered and interactive: the richness of group learning in the shared space is our common ground and departing point
  • Students listen to the music with the participation of the movement, not just with the ears
  • We use natural and functional movement from daily life, such as walking, breathing, turning, swaying, tapping, balancing, alignment, coordination between hands/feet/eyes, using tennis balls to toss or bounce...etc
  • We use games that exercise the capacities of mind/body/spirit by refining the sensibility of the nervous system.
  • We also use games that develop flexibility in the communication between the brain that transmits the order, the mind that imagines, and the executing body. Through these, we develop memory, attention, reaction and imagination.
  • We introduce basic musical vocabulary, concepts such as pulsation, meters and phrasing.

Goals of Dalcroze Eurhythmics for Adults:

  1. Harmonization of body, mind and spirit
  2. Wellness through music & movement
  3. An embodied appreciation for artistic sensibility
