Virginia, originally from Antigonish, Nova Scotia, began playing the piano at the age of eight. She received her Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto under the instruction of Lynn Stodola (Dalhousie University) in 2009. After high school she moved to Toronto to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance at the University of Toronto under the direction of Dr. James Parker of the Gryphon Trio, which she completed in 2014.

Virginia has had much success as a performer, in both a solo and collaborative capacity. She has performed in the Music Room Chamber Music Society Concert Series in Halifax, Nova Scotia, as part of the Antigonish Performing Arts Series at St. Francis Xavier University, and given solo recitals at the University of Toronto. In 2012 she participated in the Scotia Festival of Music, performing in a quintet, and in 2013 she attended the Vancouver International Song Institute, working with numerous singers for several weeks at the University of British Columbia. Virginia was also the pianist for the University of Toronto Wind Ensemble for three years, and has held positions as the St. F.X. University Chapel organist and the accompanist for the St. F.X. University Choir.

Virginia is currently pursuing a master’s degree in musicology at the University of Toronto. She has a wide range of musicological interests, including medieval and Renaissance music, particularly from Tudor England, Canadian pianists of the nineteenth century and their careers, and the Rebetika folk music of Greece. Virginia has been teaching at CMC since 2013. She loves teaching and aims to inspire a love of music in her students, as well as encouraging both fun and discipline in all musical endeavours. In her spare time Virginia likes to read, listen to the Beatles and teach herself to play the bağlama, a stringed folk instrument from Greece!
