Rock Band

What is it?

CMC's Rock Band Class is a year-long 60 minute once a week session where guitar, bass, keyboard, drum and vocal students come together and learn to play songs by their favourite bands: Metric, The Beatles, Coldplay, The White Stripes...etc. Students will not only improve on ear training, reading, writing, timing, and playing abilities, but will have fun while doing it.

A minimum of 2 performances per year is part of the course. In the past, our Rock Band classes have had additional performance opportunities in our community for events such as our annual CMC Benefit Concert and the Roncy Rocks Festival.

This is your chance to ROCK out with your friends, classmates and other CMC students!

Please note: There is a prerequisite of 2 yrs private lessons experience (or ability) on your instrument before joining this class.

PLEASE NOTE: What also is required is:

  • a keen co-operative attitude and being mature enough to work well with others;
  • a high commitment level to the group and
  • continuing private one-on-one lessons to improve your own playing skills

There is a minimum of 3 students and a maximum of 6 students per group. We require a minimum of 1 drummer, 1 bassist and 1 guitarist (additional members can be 1 keyboardist, more guitarists, vocalists and other possible instruments that must be discussed with CMC Director Lusiana directly).

Who is teaching it?

Currently our CMC Rock Band teacher Is Matt Elwood. Matt also teaches private lessons at CMC: guitar (acoustic and electric), banjo, mandolin and ukulele. Matt performs actively in several bands, so not only is he an amazing teacher, but also has a wealth of knowledge from his experience of playing in bands. You can read more about him HERE.
