Madeleine (Mado) Christie - Piano, Theory, History

MMus in Vocal Accompanying (Manhattan School of Music), BMus in Piano Performance (University of Toronto).

Mado Christie has spent the last two years in New York City studying vocal accompanying at the Manhattan School of Music with pianist and coach Kenneth Merrill.

She graduated with her Masters degree in May 2016. Born in Toronto to a family of classical musicians, Mado has been surrounded by music her entire life. She began studying piano at age four, eventually studying with acclaimed pianist Peter Longworth. She went on to study with former Romanian State Soloist, Marietta Orlov, at the University of Toronto. Madeleine graduated summa cum laude in June of 2014 with a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance.

Mado fell deeply in love with vocal music during her undergraduate degree. She studied vocal collaboration for three years with Steven Philcox. In March of 2012 Mado performed in a vocal recital at the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre in the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. At the Manhattan School of Music, Mado performed countless times in recitals, opera performances, and master classes with artists such as Martin Katz, Stephanie Blythe, and Craig Rutenberg. She performed at the piano and the harpsichord in Kenneth Merrill’s production of Don Giovanni in February of 2015, and at the piano in Albert Herring in February of 2016. She also held coaching and rehearsal pianist positions while at the Manhattan School.

Mado has always loved tutoring, teaching, and working with students of all ages. When she’s not playing or listening to music, she’s usually biking, cooking, or reading and writing stories.
