Jesse Boxer-Meyrowitz - Guitar, Bass & Double Bass

B.Mus. (Humber) Guitar, Bass, Double Bass (upright Bass)

Jesse Boxer-Meyrowitz is an electric/double bass player and arranger/composer, presently active in Toronto, Canada. Originally from Winnipeg, Jesse moved to Toronto to pursue music at Humber College in the fall of 2008. Experiencing the music scene in Toronto (and within Humber's jazz & contemporary music program) has had a large impact on his musicianship and fed his ongoing dedication to development. Since moving to Toronto, Jesse has been fortunate enough to have performed a wide variety of musical styles in a large number of musical venues across the city. He has also had the opportunity to learn from some of the country's top jazz musicians.

Some recent achievements include: completion of a bachelor of music degree from Humber College, winning the 2012 Toronto blues society talent search and traveling to Memphis, TN in 2013 to represent Canada in the international blues challenge (IBC) with Irene Torres & The Sugar Devils, gaining musical theatre experience in productions by Theatre Aurora, Curtain Call Players, Clearwater Theatre Company and The Brampton Music Theatre Group, the release of the debut album from Toronto roots/soul band The Joyful Sinners (which features Jesse on electric bass and horn section arrangements), and performing and recording with other artists such as Ike Stubblefield, Donnie Walsh & Chuck Jackson (Downchild Blues Band), Marti Sarbit (Imaginary Cities).

Jesse has had the pleasure of studying with world class bassists and musicians such as Mike Downes, Neil Swainson, Pat Kilbride, Kieran Overs, Pat LaBarbera, Kirk MacDonald, Dave Restivo, Rich Brown, & Chris Tarry. Jesse is continuing to hone his development on both the electric bass and the double bass, as he likes to stay well rounded and perform many different styles of music. You can catch him performing actively throughout Toronto (and Ontario).

Jesse wants to keep building a reputation as a reliable, and versatile sideman. He is also continuing to compose his own original music for a contemporary jazz project in the vein of Dave Holland and Chris Tarry's compositions.
