Brenton Chan - Cello

Known for his ingenuity in merging classical music with pop-culture, cellist Brenton Chan is the cello ensemble co-ordinator for Professor Shauna Rolston at the University of Toronto. 

A featured artist and arranger at Music in the Morning in Vancouver 2014, Brenton performed alongside Shauna Rolston, Barry Shiffman and Joseph Elworthy at the Vancouver Academy of Music and at CBC's Studio 1.  Not a stranger to CBC Toronto, Brenton performed at the Glenn Gould Studio in 2012 for John McDermott’s fundraiser Music in the Key of Giving.  Brenton’s passion for music has led him to many international music festivals.  Recent sojourns include the International Festival of the Duchi d’Acquaviva (Italy) where he received a scholarship to study with Maria Kliegel, and the Orford Music Festival (Québec) where he was invited by the Gryphon Trio to participate in their piano trio pilot project.

Devoted to youth education, Brenton is a teacher at the Classical Music Conservatory in Toronto and he guest coaches for the Toronto District School Board.

In the realm of jazz, Brenton has worked with Canadian Juno Award-winning singer-songwriter Molly Johnson, and with Canadian award-winning artist Laila Baili.  He has also released an independent trio recording of Beatles ballads available thru cdbaby and iTunes.
