Alexa Wilks - Violin

Originally from Almonte, Ontario, Alexa Wilks is currently completing the final stages of her Doctorate of Musical Arts in violin performance at the University of Toronto, under the mentorship of Professor Annalee Patipatanakoon.  Alexa enjoys her extensive teaching responsibilities through the University of Toronto, where she serves Professor Patipatanakoon’s studio assistant, working with undergraduate performance and education students.  

She maintains an active freelance career in Toronto as a current member of the Esprit Contemporary Music Ensemble, Via Salzburg Chamber Ensemble from 2008 – 2011aand is a founding member of the TON BEAU STRING QUARTET since the summer of 2010 with three close friends from University of Toronto, who are also CMC teachers. 

 Together they have performed extensively around Toronto in venues such as Gallery 345 on Sourauren and the Harbourfront Music Garden.  For the 2011-2012 season, the Ton Beau Quartet held a Professional Development Creative Residency at Wilfred Laurier University, where they coached regularly with the Penderecki String Quartet, performed a recital in Maureen Forrester Recital Hall, and gave coaching and masterclasses to the undergraduate performance students.  The Ton Beau Quartet have also participated in numerous summer festivals, including Stanford’s Chamber Music Seminar and Wilfrid Laurier Quartetfest!

When she is not performing, Alexa enjoys baking, trolling the internet for celebrity gossip and playing with her adorable puppy, Varley.  Alexa is very grateful to perform on a 1760 Louis Guersan violin, generously on loan from an anonymous donor.

Alexa has been teaching kids to adults and has taught at Attaca Music School in Ottawa from October 2003 – June 2006. Alexa is looking forward to inspiring and working with students at CMC.
